What Is Bee?

BEE Star Labels Keeping in mind the issues of Climate Change and Global warming, the Government of India took some fundamental steps. Therefore, the government came up with the BEE Star Label Program realizing the gravity of this situation.  Furthermore, BEE stands for "Bureau of Energy Efficiency" and is a program implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power. Moreover, this program has a government approval rating commenced in 2006. In addition, these BEE star Labels have become an essential element while purchasing appliances in India. Besides, you might have noticed a 'star rating' sticker on your appliance. Henceforth, these stars are BEE Star Labels, which exhibit how much electricity that appliance consumes in a year. Similarly, each appliance gets between one to five stars. Thus, the five-stars appliances mean that they function efficiently and would keep a tight rein on your electricity. Henceforth, let's dive further into the concept of BEE Star Labels.

What Is The Purpose Of The Bee?

BEE Star Labels The BEE Star Label enlightens the consumers about electrical products and their downsides. Furthermore, the aim is to inform the buyers about the energy consumption of each appliance that falls under the horizon of BEE. Moreover, the BEE Star Labels covers a whole range of appliances such as refrigerators and freezers, air conditioners, water heaters, domestic induction stoves, office automation products, and many more. Therefore, this is the ultimate purpose of the BEE Star Labels to make efficient use of electricity regarding the depletion of the environment and ozone layer. Henceforth, let's further learn how it is measured.

How Do They Calculate The Bee Star Labels?

Various appliances fall within the ambit of BEE. Therefore, there is a set calculation method for each and every appliance. Furthermore, there are a lot of values that generally are in use to derive the rating of each appliance. Moreover, the products are analyzed based on these criteria. Additionally, when the calculation completes, the bottom ten products bid farewell. However, the remaining 90% are now given ratings between one to five stars. For instance, whenever a specific brand launches an appliance, its foremost step is to send the model to a lab which is accredited by NABL for its testing. Furthermore, testing these appliances is not a long process and takes a day to test a model. Therefore, as stated earlier, the process extrapolates a lot of values during this process. For example, in an air conditioner, the power consumption and its efficiency are calculated at 100% and 50% capacities. Then, it contemplates the value to running conditions in different seasons. In addition, the BEE Star Labels doesn't test each appliance prior to issuing them the rating. Besides, they test the 'efficiency' of the appliances viz. 'output by input.' The input is the power consumption for every appliance, but then the output differs. For example, the output for air conditioners is the cooling capacity for fans, air delivery, etc. therefore, for each appliance, the values contemplated, and method of calculation is different. Henceforth, after this whole process, the lab sends the results to BEE.  In addition, if the product purchased does not perform as per the Labels ratings, then the consumer has all the right to file a complaint to BEE. Furthermore, the process would be that BEE will test the product again. However, if the test results do not exceed BEE's expectations, then BEE Star Labels might scrap the ratings from that model and pull it out from the market. Therefore, this is the gist of the process here. Henceforth, let's check out the different kinds of BEE Star Labels.

What Are The Different Kinds Of Bee Star Labels?

big labels small labels The BEE provides two types of BEE Star Labels. Therefore, check them out for more details, down below:
  • Big Labels
The BEE gives Big Labels or BEE Star rating when the appliance consumes more electricity and is used for a long period of time. Furthermore, they depict additional insights in which they mention the yearly consumption of the product, product category, and brand name. Additionally, the 'big labels' enable the consumers to calculate the appliance's cost.
  • Small Labels
Under the small labels depict the energy consumption by outcasting the star ratings only. Furthermore, appliances that consume less energy, like tube lights, computers, etc., fall under this category.

What Makes Bee Star Labels So Important and; Why Should You Look For Bee Star Rating Appliances?

ratings' importance The BEE Star Ratings depicts 'efficiency.' Furthermore, the higher the rating, the higher the efficiency and much lower your electricity consumption. Moreover, there are multiple appliances in modern households, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, etc. Therefore, it is advisable that if the usage of any appliance is high, then one must go for a high energy-efficient appliance. E.g., ceiling fans consume a high use of 10-20 and 4-5 units hours per day. Similarly, refrigerators and water heaters consume up to 3-4 units per day in any household. Hence, checking and looking for efficient appliances through the BEE Star Labels ratings is necessary.

What Should You Look For While Buying An Appliance?

The BEE Star Labels ratings are an essential indicator of the efficiency of the specific appliance. Therefore, before buying any appliance, do keep these few things in mind.
  • When was the appliance rated?
  • Not every category of the appliance gets the BEE star rating
  • Calculate ROI
  • The standards of subcategories of the products differ
  • Take a look at the technology
Henceforth, with all that, the BEE Star Labels and ratings, note that a 5-star BEE rating does not always mean it is a great product. However, it only means that certain appliances are efficient and save more energy. Also, consumers prefer to buy high-tech appliances which might not be in the category of BEE Star Labels ratings but holds a significant place in the market because of their technology. Therefore, sometimes BEE ratings are not the hallmark for the quality of the appliances.

Crux

The bottom line or crux of it is that BEE Star Labels is a critical step towards acknowledging the issues of Climate Change and various detrimental factors that come with it. Henceforth, it is an environment-friendly approach to save electricity and save the environment.
