GOODBYE iPod. The hot pipping news shook almost the entire world. Interestingly, after 20 years, almost two decades of revolutionizing the music industry, since it launched in October 2001.Apple officially retires the iPod series. This announcement took place on the 10th of May, 2022. Furthermore, the iPod series came in different shapes and sizes. The first one was a pocket-sized iPod classic with a click wheel and the final iPod touch. Factually, the product line of the iPod contributed to the growth of the iPhone series. Thus, later helped develop Silicon Valley into the center of global capitalism. The company also announced that the shopping of current available iPod products will be on until the last sale. Moreover, the supply will not be taking place anymore. The company has stopped manufacturing and Apple officially retires the iPod series. 

Why did Apple discontinue the iPod?

First, people can say the increasing functionality of smartphones impacted the iPod utility worldwide. Another reason can be the availability of low prices, fast internet services, and music streaming platforms like Spotify, iTunes, and Prime music. Basically, these platforms created hurdles in the growth of the iPod. Notably, rumors also say, the iPhone series is the major reason behind the downfall of the iPod. Because people are getting the same music features in the iPhone mobiles at nearby prices, it automatically reduces iPod sales. Additionally, and as per 2014 records, the continuous annual discount on iPod sales fell by 24 percent, considered problematic for the company. Furthermore, it became part of the Apple ecosystem as an affordable handheld device, inspired by its availability in different colors and models. Here are some iPod series models generation after generation below, as the final call of the iPod series. iPod Classic- It is recognized for its polished steel frame with the iconic click wheel in the middle of it. That gives it an attractive look with newly introduced features. Years later, Apple launched the smaller iPod Mini; following this presentation, iPod Nano was even smaller and something new than before. Further, in 2005, Apple introduced the iPod shuffle. This entry-level device had flash memory and was the first iPod model without a screen. Later in 2007, the company launched iPod Touch, a seventh-generation device with a multi-touch device with WiFi, Safari Browser, Youtube, etc.  Following the iPod journey from the hardware and music perspective, the devices also helped unload the weight of a pile of cassette players at that time. Also considered best as handy that is available in pocket size. According to Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Apple officially retires the iPod from the company’s product list.
